Volvo
Volvo’s passion and commitment to the sport of sailing comes in many guises and touches many lives. From the elite band of ocean racers confronting the demands of the world’s toughest ocean challenge – the Volvo Ocean Race – via the heat of battle in the Olympic Games to the support of the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championships which aim to unearth the next wave of global sailing talent.
Volvo plays a key role in safeguarding the future of the sport with its sponsorship of the Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championships – the annual gathering of the world’s finest young sailors. The Youth Worlds has established an impressive legacy and has an uncanny ability to give the sailing world a glimpse of its future stars.
In sailing, Volvo sees parallels with its own passion for safety, environmental care and quality. Teamwork, technology, tenacity and talent are all traits demanded in the harsh commercial environment in which Volvo competes, those self-same virtues demanded by sailors be it in the hostile habitat of the Southern Ocean or the combative climate of the Olympics.
Volvo is the title sponsor of the Volvo Ocean Race – the ultimate offshore adventure for elite sailors – the toughest, roughest race on earth, a 39,000nm, nine-month test of mental and physical endurance.
Team Volvo for Life, an excellence initiative promoted by Volvo Car UK has consistently delivered Olympic sailing champions, two team members, Shirley ROBERTSON and Ben AINSLIE, both ex-Volvo Youth Sailing ISAF World Championship medallists going on to win double Olympic gold in Sydney and Athens.
