Olympic Games 1996

Thanks ...

IYRU logo Thanks ...

[ Back ]

The IYRU would like to thank the following organisations for their assistance in making the IYRU Olympic Results service possible ....

  • ACOG - for allowing the IYRU direct access to the information
  • IBM - for providing hardware and software, plus general assistance in interpreting the data available (thanks Keith!)
  • Hargray Communications - for providing free internet access to all of the people at the Sheraton Hotel site in Savannah. This includes internet terminals for the press and live television broadcast. For more information about Hargray, visit their website, or contact Alita Newton. The service was not only 100% reliable, but FAST. Thanks Alita.
  • The volunteers who sat at the mark boats for two weeks hunched over mini terminals punching in mark roundings. Great for sea sickness.
  • Swatch Timing for their great service of getting all the mark roundings and finishing places ashore electronically, instead of having to wait for soggy pieces of paper to arrive two hours after the last race.

I would also personally like to thank the following people for their
assistance.
  • Paul Henderson for having the foresight and "determination" to push this through, even when confronted with significant obstacles.
  • Phil Jones for doing all the negotiations with ACOG and IBM when he was supposed to organising a boat race.
  • Luissa Smith and Deryse Pellar from the IYRU office for their assistance in planning the website.
  • Dave McCreary, the IYRU webmaster, for putting in ridiculous hours of preparation and hard work hunched over a computer even during the delivery of his third child. We now just have to cure him of this MAC fixation.
  • My wife, Jennifer and daughter, Danielle for putting up with me while all this was going on.

Roll on Sydney 2000 ........
