IYRU Olympic Update

WILDCARDS

The qualification system for the yachting tournament of the Games of the XXVI Olympiad in Atlanta 1996, approved by the IOC, ANOC and IYRU and published in the document "games of the xxvi olympiad, atlanta 1996 - participation and qualification criteria" (May 1994 first version and March 1995 second version), includes a reserve of Wild Cards, for non-qualified athletes in order to guarantee the universality of the Games and also to solve extraordinary cases. A tripartite commission composed of IOC, ANOC and IYRU representatives was established to decide on the attribution of such wild cards.

Once the qualification system was completed, the tripartite commission, after analysing all the requests made by the NOCs, has decided to attribute wild cards to the following NOCs and events:

Algeria (ALG) - Board Men (Mistral)
Cuba (CUB) - Double handed dinghy men (470)
Guam (GUM) - Dinghy Open (Laser)
Guatemala (GUA) - Board Men (Mistral)
Indonesia (INA) - Board Men (Mistral)
San Marino (SMR) - Dinghy Open (Laser)
Sudan (SUD) - Dinghy Open (Laser) and
- Double handed dinghy men (470)
Thailand (THA) - Board Men (Mistral)
