IYRU Olympic Update OLYMPIC UPDATE, JUNE 22, 1996

The Champagne Mumm Olympic Classes Beach Regatta is being hosted on Hilton Head Island beginning June 22.

Six of the 10 Olympic divisions will compete at the event: men's and women's Mistral windsurfer, the Europe, Finn, Laser and Tornado classes. Earlier this week nearly 40 countries had signed up for the event and almost 150 sailors had registered.

There are four DROs (deputy race officers) and one of the PROs (principal race officers) from the Olympics. Although this seems like a chance for competitors to see how they will do at the Olympics, generally most competitors feel it is only practice and the intensity level probably won't be that high in any of the classes.
