OLYMPIC UPDATE, June 1, 1996
DAY MARINA IN WASSAW SOUND
The day marina is made up of a series of floating barges lashed to spuds driven into the ocean floor. It will house all the boats, including larger keel boats, during the Games.
Athletes will take water shuttles each day to and from the main Olympic marina at the Sheraton in Savannah. They'll sail their boats from the day marina to the race courses.
In the end, Scott Bridge, the contractor, is confident the facility will not only be four times bigger than the one his company built for last summer's pre-Olympic test regatta, but be much, much better.
The deadline for completion of the day marina is June 23-28. The Scott Bridge Company says all work is on schedule for completion.
