Message from IYRU President Paul Henderson:
Today is another sad day for humanity and it has made me reflect on Munich 72 and the massacre of the Israeli athletes by cowards.

I was with the Canadian sailing team in Kiel as the coach at that time.
Early on the Wednesday morning we received at call from the Canadian Chef-de-Mission.

The options put to us were:
    1) Cancel the Games.
    2) Cancel all events with Israeli athletes.
    3) Delay the Games.

It was a very emotional day and we were all in shock.
I looked out of the village window and saw our excellent Star sailor Allan Liebel sitting lonely at a bench and decided since he was Jewish his perspective was the only valid one.
    I asked him directly:
    "Allan what do we do?"
    He immediately replied:
"We should be racing today! We must not let these cowards disrupt our lives, if we do they win."

This position has greatly affected all my thinking when I hear of these acts.

    Paul Henderson
