Hurricane Bertha Approaches US Mainland, Threatens Olympic Sailing Venue

As of 2 PM EDT Wednesday, Bertha had maximum sustained winds of 105 MPH and was 60 miles ESE of Great Abaco Island, Bahamas. The storm is headed NW at 14 mph. A hurricane working has been issued by the National Weather Service from Sebastian Inlet in Central Florida to Cape Romain, just north of Charleston, South Carolina.

The Olympic sailing facility at Savannah is within this hurricane warning area. Tornados, Stars and Solings are being moved to the Sheraton facility, other boats may be moved there as well. The Day Marina and the Sheraton are being evacuated, the evacuation will be complete by 6 PM. The athletes and coaches may be evacuated to Atlanta if the storm track moves farther west.
