HRH PRINCESS ANNE VISITS OLYMPIC YACHTING

Her Royal Highness Princess Anne will be visiting the Olympic Yachting sites in Savannah today. Travelling down from Atlanta this morning her highness will view some of the sixteen races in eight events taking place out on Wassaw sound and the Atlantic Ocean.

Her Royal Highness is a member of the International Olympic Committee and the President of the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), the national federation of sailing in Great Britain. In supporting the RYA Sail for Gold Campaign, Her Royal Highness was instrumental in enabling the British Sailing team to secure the necessary funds to support the participation of the British Olympic Team and the logistical research programme undertaken over the past six months.

Briefly visiting the Day Marina in the early afternoon, Her Royal Highness will meet with ACOG and the International Yacht Racing Union (IYRU) Officials, and, amongst others, the British 470 duo of John Merricks and Ian Walker, who currently ranked 2nd in the world have high hopes of returning home with a medal.

A keen sailor Her Royal Highness will no doubt enjoy the racing out on the Atlantic and Savannah and yachting is delighted to have her support and presence at the Centennial Regatta.
