HONG KONG LOOKING TO FIRST EVER OLYMPIC MEDAL

Hong Kong has won sports medals at Commonwealth and Asian Games but so far has never won an Olympic medal in any sport.

Their first ever gold medal could well come in yachting at the Atlanta Olympic Yachting Regatta in Savannah, with Lai Shan LEE who is ranked number one in the world in the women's boardsailing discipline, the Mistral.

"we are quietly confident that lai shan lee will make history for hong kong...she is in very good shape and enjoying the sailing conditions on wassaw sound", team leader Bertrand de Speville said at the Olympic Marina today.

While Lai Shan LEE is a versatile boardsailor in a wide range of conditions, the Hong Kong team is looking for light breezes to suit their 470 and Laser sailors.

"our women's 470 crew of cheug mae han and tung chun mei are probably the lightest crew in the regatta...we are feeding them up on american ice cream", de Speville added. But they certainly have potential in light winds, and we could get some quite light breezes on Wassaw Sound.
