IYRU Olympic Update 3. Changes in Sailing Instructions and Notices to Competitors

3.1 Notices to competitors will be posted on the official notice boards located near the sports information desks at the Olympic Village in Savannah, the Olympic Marina and on the Day Marina.

3.2 Any change in the Sailing Instructions will, after approval by the IYRU Technical Delegate, be posted on the official notice boards not later than 08:30 on the day it takes effect, except that any change in the schedule of races will be posted not later than 20:00 on the day before it takes effect.

4. Signals Made Ashore

4.1 Signals made ashore will be displayed between 8:00 and 20:30 from flagpoles at the Olympic Marina and on the Day Marina.

4.2 Code flag"ap" (Answering Pennant) means: All races are postponed. The warning signals for the first event to start will be made not less than one hour after AP is lowered.

4.3 Code flag"t" means: Official tows will be available from the Day Marina from 11:30, or, if racing is postponed, from the lowering of Code flag AP.

4.4 Code flag"y" means: Lifejackets or other adequate personal buoyancy shall be worn while afloat until the warning signal. This alters IYRR 4.1. See Sailing Instruction 24.2.

5. Schedule of Races

5.1 The official practice races will be on Sunday, 21 July.

5.2 The schedule of races is in Appendix I. No more than two races will be sailed in any event on one day.

5.3 No races will be scheduled after Friday, 2 August. No Soling fleet races will be scheduled after Tuesday, 30 July.

5.4
(a) Reserve days may be used if races are not completed as scheduled. Reserve days may be used if, in the opinion of the IYRU technical delegate and the ACOG competition manager, races are unlikely to be completed as scheduled.

(b) If races are not completed as scheduled, they may be rescheduled at different times and in different racing areas.

(c) If seven or fewer races have been completed prior to racing on the day the last race is scheduled, a second race will be scheduled that day.

(d) If fewer than nine races have been completed at the end of racing on the day the last race is scheduled, further races will be scheduled to a maximum of nine races.

5.5 The first warning signal for the first fleet race on each racing area is scheduled for 13:00 each day. The warning signal for the second race of the day will be made as soon as practicable after the finish of the first race, but not sooner than 20 minutes (30 minutes for IMCO One-Designs) after the first yacht finishes the first race.

5.6 At the finish of the first race of the day a boat will be stationed in the vicinity of the finishing line displaying Code flag"l" and a board showing the earliest possible time of a warning signal for the next race for that event. Failure of this boat to be on station shall not be grounds for granting redress. This alters IYRR 69(a).

5.7 Races will be numbered sequentially in the order in which they are completed.
